We arrived in Birmingham about 12.30 on Friday and were already shattered after a long journey and a terrible night in a Truck stop (don’t ask). Paid an extra £10 to book into our room early and headed in planning on having a nap before everyone arrived, that didn’t go to plan as texts were flying back and forth to Jag and when we nipped outside for a ciggie we saw Addick just outside the hotel door, before long Renaan arrived (and yes, he’s exactly the same as he is on Skype lol)and we headed downstairs to join Ken and his lovely wife at Apres, Jugglebug soon turned up as well and Jag finally fought his way through the traffic. MrJack had the toughest journey in my opinion, walking through Brum! After chatting and sampling the local beer and snacks (purely for research purposes of course) we decided that the rebuy freeroll at the Star City casino was a good plan so we all headed down there in 2 taxis once Jeffchef had arrived.
The game didn’t start until 9.30 and was a freeroll with £10 re-buys, and had some seriously laughable play throughout. Quality shone through though and both Scottie and BigBadKen made the final table, Scottie finishing 4th for £220 and Ken chopped HU for around £550. We all headed back to the hotel to collapse as by this time it was 5am!
Saturday started early for me as I had trouble sleeping and ended up in Tesco buying milk at 8.30am, everyone else eventually woke and we all had breakfast downstairs in Frankie and Benny’s, those waitresses certainly deserved the tips we gave them! Managed to finally get some sleep (after trying to flood the hotel room) and walked across to the Broadway for the £30 double chance which started at 9pm.
The game started with Addick sat next to me on a fairly average table. The first hour was quite quiet, stole a few pots here and there, won a largeish pot when I called from mid position with 67d and the flop came 5 8 9 with 2 spades, SB bet, BB called and I shoved. They both called and turned over flush draws which missed so I got a nice triple up and Addick got a few odd looks for shouting “no spade, no spade!!”. By the time we reached the break I had just over double the average and a rebuy ticket left. The next couple of hours are a bit of a blur, won some pots, bluffed a few and got caught with my hand in the cookie jar once but kept an above average stack. I was moved table a couple of times but didn’t notice we were down to the final 2 tables until the dealer asked if we wanted to do a saver deal for the person who went out on the bubble? There were 13 left at that point and everyone agreed that $50 should be taken off the winner’s money and given to 13th place as only 12 were due to be paid. Of course I agreed, it’s not like I was going to win anyway and if I busted out then I was guaranteed £50 lol
I’m glad I did agree as BigBadKen was the bubble boy and got his saver cash, 2 cashes in 2 days, well done Ken! The play continued and I more or less hid in the corner as I was card dead and listened to the chaos caused by Jag, Renaan and Scottie on the table games, lots of “but whyyyyyyyyyyyyy??” shouting going on then suddenly we’d got down to 10 and it was final table time. A short break first so I went outside for a ciggie and got a pep talk from everyone else, (if I seemed to ignore you guys I’m sorry I was a little distracted)
Play resumed and the first thing said on the table was someone suggesting a 10 way split, this was politely refused by most, the “gent” on my right wasn’t quite so polite “cos you’re all crap and I can walk all over you” so on the first hand dealt I did the right thing and bluffed him off a very large pot lol. People dropped off quite quickly after that until we were down to 4, one shortie and the rest of us were fairly even so another split was proposed. £500 to the shortie and £700 each for us, again one player was quite abrupt about how he was going to beat us all and refused the deal. Next hand I got dealt JJ on the button and raised into his blind, he flat called and the flop came down 9 high, I bet and he pushed. I did consider he’d hit a set but decided I was ahead so called. He had 66 and the rest of the board didn’t help him so he lost a chunk of chips and soon left in 4th with £310. At that point we all decided to deal, £500 each and the rest split on chip count, I was chip leader at that point so ended up with £860. Headed over to the cash desk with the slip to get the money and the guy in 2nd decided that since I had (in his words) my cheerleaders with me then I was the most trustworthy and therefore he handed me his cash as well to take back to the cardroom to split it all. After leaving a tip for the dealers we all headed back to the hotel, well we did once we’d dragged Jag away from Cleo
Yet another early morning finish and it was after 7am before I settled enough to sleep.
We were woken by the phone and Jeff knocking on the door a couple of hours later as everyone was meeting for breakfast again, after which Scottie and I went for sleep and the others all went bowling. The triple chance on Sunday night was one game too many I think and most bust out early on and took over the roulette and 3 card poker tables. Since we had had so little sleep and Scottie was driving the next morning we left Renaan and Fluence still playing and left to sleep.
Was a great weekend and as usual everyone there thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If you’re ever in a position to attend a SaS weekend then I highly recommend it, you haven’t lived until you have seen the SaS railers in action!
